Eye-testing manufacturer, Good-Lite, extols xTuple's functionality and support

"My name is Tim Collins, and I work for a company called Good-Lite. We're based out of Chicago area. We are a manufacturer of eye charts and eye test equipment. We do a lot with ophthalmologists, optometrists, school nurses. And we've been around since 1930, so we've been around quite a while."

[Scott Church, xTuple] "So, Tim, what do you do for Good-Lite?"

[Tim Collins, Good-Lite] "What I do for Good-Lite is a little bit of everything. Mostly their IT, IT manager. We are a small company so it's pretty much whatever needs to be done. We all chip in."

[Scott Church, xTuple] "What prompted you to search for an ERP solution, and how did you find xTuple?"

[Tim Collins, Good-Lite] "What prompted me to start looking for an ERP system was - we are currently using MYOB, and it was fine when we were a really small company, usually under a million. And we ran into a huge wall. Obviously, we do a lot in Europe, so we must be CDC-certified. Essentially it's nothing more than an account ledger. But we had no way to keep current track of our customers. We could not keep track of returns, shipping. There was a lot of extra work involved. We looked at Infor. We'd been talking to Epicor and also was looking at open source solutions which Openbravo was one of them, an online version, which was NetSuite. We looked at all of the open source ones, and there really wasn't much behind it. Infor was very disappointing. The cloud modules actually wouldn't talk to each other. And very expensive. Epicor, which we were seriously looking at, was very expensive, and it's PC-only application. And we are Mac-based. We found xTuple online. I also went to the Apple store in Schaumburg, Illinois (IL), just right outside Chicago and talked to their business developer there. And he recommended xTuple which really kind of reaffirmed what [I was looking at]. I was able to get xTuple running and play with it and see if I really liked it or not. If you go with the other commercial vendors, you cannot do that. You really have to look at their screen shots and listen to their salesman and then you have to make sure {rolls eyes} 'is this really the route I want to go?'"

[Scott Church, xTuple] "What could we do to make your xTuple experience a success?"

[Tim Collins, Good-Lite] "What you could do to make my xTuple experience a success is probably a lot more consulting. Obviously, the forums are a fantastic resource. I've really been on those already. I know another great resource is the online videos, so there's a great deal of stuff that xTuple is doing right now that is very helpful. But going forward, it will probably be additional [professional services] consulting."
